31 Days of Repetitive Parening: Day 4 "COME HERE!"

The first few days of Repetitive Parenting has focused primarily on things I say to my teens.  I figured it was about time Cupcake entered the mix!
Happy to be 3!

At three years old, she has her own little, independent, strong willed, curious, adorable, entertaining personality.  I am pretty sure that I could record myself repeating the mantra, "Come here!" in every variety of manner, intonation, emphasis, and decibel level; play on an endless loop just to save my voice and she'd never notice. She would most likely continue to go about doing her own thing, ignoring my call to arms.

It's a weary time of life - being a stay-at-home mom with a three year old with a mind of her own.

Been there.  Done that.  Twice before.  When I was a lot younger!

Now I'm older.  More experienced.  More exhausted.  At the end of my emotional, pre-menopausal  rope.  Cupcake could very well be the catalyst for my mid-life crisis!

But she is so darn cute!
Cute and she knows it!
I mean, just look at that face!  Even now, she has captured me under her adorable spell and I have almost forgotten the frustrating morning we had together trying to get out the door.  The hugs, kisses and "I love yous" from her make those types of mornings worth the effort...eventually.  So I will continue to repeat my call for her to "come here."

It's a vital and necessary lesson in life.

Sometimes I'm calling her to safety and out of harms way.  Sometimes I am needing her to learn how to be part of our family routine as we hustle out the door in the morning.  Sometimes I am wanting to know what she's up to because the house has suddenly become threateningly quiet.  Sometimes I just want a big hug!

In any and every situation the important lesson we're needing her to learn is obedience and respect because of our God-given authority over her as parents.  Wow!  There's a lot behind those two little words: come here.

Therefore, I will continue to teach her and remind her that she needs to listen to Mommy and Daddy, because God loves her and so do we.

A message worth repeating!

  1. Have you ever seen Bill Cosby Himself? It's his stand-up routine from the 80's (I think), in which he talks about the joys of parenthood. There's one bit he does about a little boy on an airplane named Jeffrey. And how Jeffrey's mother said his name and the words "come here" for the entire flight.

    "Comeherecomeherecomeherecomeherecomeherecomeherecomehere."

Sometimes I think I should change my son's name to Jeffrey.
