Morning Moments

I am far from being a morning person. In fact, I would go so far as to say that I am so much a night owl that I'm almost anti-morning. I've never liked to get up early and I don't feel like I have much energy in the morning. Usually, I get my wind in the evening, so that's when I tend to tackle dishes and laundry with a little more zing to my step. A typical bedtime for me would be about 12:30 am. Naturally since baby has arrived, even before she arrived, my usual is, well, no longer the usual!

At first, exhaustion dictated a change to my usual sleep cycle. I was tired all the time for the first couple of weeks, but enjoyed the snuggle time with nursing. Looking back, I'm amazed how easily I could fall asleep while nursing sitting up in a rocking chair. Yikes, did that scare me when I would nod off and feel my arms relax...I'd wake with a start to hold baby closer so she didn't roll off my lap. I started to use a Boppy pillow, which helped immensely to keep her in place if I did nod off (then I only had to deal with the stiff neck I'd get when I awoke with my chin on my chest!)

Eventually, baby and I found our perfect nursing spot...the recliner! Now baby can nurse and snuggle til her heart's (and tummy's) content. These morning nursing/napping times have become my favorite time of day. The fact that baby has granted me a good 5-8 hours of sleep since early on has aided me in looking forward to those early morning moments. With a good night sleep anything is possible! I especially like it when she wakes up happy and cooing with excitement as we nestle down in the recliner to start our day. Ah, tender times with baby!
